From ruin to a dream house

From ruin to a dream house

Monique lives with her partner Tim and son Kai in Woerden. They bought a dilapidated building and they have transformed it into a wonderful single-family house. Before renovation, the place was in a very poor state. Yet, they were charmed by it. “Ultimately, we decided to go for it and to transform this spacious single-family house - with its immense potential - into our palace.”

Monique's love for interior design began when she and her partner started to live together. "I found it wonderful to search for all sorts of items and I so much enjoyed designing. That grew into something much bigger. I read more and more interior blogs and with Instagram, my world of interior design expanded. I also came across the people who are nuts about interior design," says Monique.

What is the interior taste of Monique? Slow living with her own twist. “What characterises my interior taste are natural materials, tranquil earthy and pastel hues combined with Scandinavian and vintage designs. It shouldn't necessarily be preconceived, although before we moved here I naturally made all sorts of mood boards and Pinterest filled with pretty star images.” Atmosphere is very important for Monique. Monique adds, “It's imperative that it becomes your favourite place, a place that gives you a good feeling each day as if you are on holiday every day. In terms of our family, we succeeded in achieving this.”

"IXXI really has the most beautiful works of art in every style and size"

The abstract IXXI of Mareike Boehmer radiates in Monique's bedroom. This IXXI fits perfectly in her Scandinavian interior due to its colourful pastel tints. Monique: “IXXI really has the most beautiful works of art in every style and size. It truly makes a statement in a room. The atmosphere mentioned above can be wonderfully completed with a lovely work of art of IXXI.” If it's up to Monique, one IXXI in her home is not enough. “I can tell secretly that I already have the next IXXI in mind, which will give us a lovely atmosphere in the coming autumn and winter.”
