Hometour: an old elegant farmhouse with a colorful and modern interior

Sofie bought the farmhouse together with her husband. The entire property had already been modernized , which meant that a major renovation was unnecessary. Unfortunately, the elements that make the house so beautiful were hidden. “We decided to remove the suspended ceilings, so that we regained an enormous height,” says Sofie. "We managed to restore the old beams in the dining room and my father-in-law helped me reattach the ornaments to the ceiling in the sitting room." To complete the house, Sofie went on the hunt for authentic en suite doors. “Eventually I found some doors from the same period as the house and we were able to restore them with the help of craftsmen. It’s as if they've always been there and they’re such eye-catchers inside the house.”

They’re two extremes, where the kitchen looks very Scandinavian and radiates serenity and the living room is richly decorated with a mix of many different colours,” adds Sofie.

Old masters
Sofie and her husband have a great love for art painted by the old masters. So beautiful paintings can be found hanging in various spots in the house. “I’d been missing something above the sofa for a while and was looking for something classic yet modern,” says Sofie. Her husband wanted an old painting and she wanted something that contrasted with the decorative cornices on other walls in the house. The IXXI was a perfect solution for both! "The advantage was that we could order it as big as we wanted, which means that it fits perfectly inside the cornices," says Sofie. “I was still nervous about whether the IXXI would really come into its own, because of the enormous size. But I’m super happy with the result! It’s as if it really belongs here and I discover a different detail every time I look at this impressive work of art. The colours perfectly match the rest of the living room. Picture perfect!”
