Mariska lives in an old corner house in Rotterdam, together with her boyfriend Ricardo. The house has lovely authentic elements such as the stained glass windows, brick walls and high ceilings. This is exactly what makes it so unique. There are also many windows, so the house is always filled with sunlight. ‘It gives me such positive energy’, says Mariska. The unique elements come into their own thanks to the mid-century modern and Scandinavian style that Mariska has included throughout the interior. ‘I think these two interior décor styles blend together perfectly. I love to use natural colours and materials that create a warm palette.’

Even as a child, Mariska always enjoyed styling and restyling the rooms in the house where she grew up. Now that she has own home, anything is possible. Mariska: ‘I get my inspiration from cities such as Paris, my second home, and also try to include that air of Paris chic in my home’s interior’. One of her favourite places is therefore the dining room, from where she can see the double doors that open onto a French balcony.

Mariska’s interior décor includes two artworks. ‘At one end of the dining table is my favourite IXXI, with a design by Christiane Spangsberg, and in the bedroom there is a graphic design by Mareike Böhmer. I love art and that’s why I chose these IXXIs. The result is fabulous and it makes me so happy just looking at the overall effect. A house is never finished, but I’m nevertheless delighted with how it looks right now.’
