With her powerful and minimalist designs, she brings style to countless interiors. Time to reflect on a year full of highlights with Maaike!

"Please Dance on Tables" - A Message Full of Joy

One of Maaike’s most popular artworks at IXXI is undoubtedly Please Dance on Tables. We asked Maaike Koster how this design came to life. “Please Dance on Tables was born from my love for celebrating life. I wanted to capture this idea in a simple but powerful message. The idea was inspired by those moments when I let go of everything and enjoy without holding back. Don’t take life too seriously.”

Is this a special piece of art for you?

“Absolutely! It’s a piece that perfectly reflects what I want to convey: positivity, spontaneity, and a bit of rebellion. It’s a reminder of the power of having fun, and the fact that it resonates with so many people makes it even more special.”

Why do you think it’s so loved by IXXI customers?

“I think people love it because it adds a touch of humor and playfulness to their interior. It has a positive vibe and feels universal—no matter who you are, everyone can relate to the message of enjoying life more. Plus, the minimalist style fits perfectly with many different interiors.”

Are quotes your signature style?

“Yes, quotes and typography are definitely an important part of my work. I believe in the power of words. My goal is to make people pause, think, smile, or encourage them to see their day differently.”

“Please Dance on Tables, without a doubt!”

Which of your works available at IXXI do you find the most special?

“That’s a tough choice, but I’d have to say Hotel and Dance on Tables. They both have a minimalist look, and the texts spark the imagination. It’s the perfect balance between humor and design, and that’s exactly what I wanted to achieve.”
