Jan Davidsz. De Heem

De Heem grew up in Utrecht where he was apprenticed as a flower still life painter to Balthasar van der Ast. His subjects were mainly musical instruments and books. After his departure to Antwerp, his work became more colorful and elegant and he painted more often fruits and flowers. His colorful works were very popular. Everyone wanted to be apprenticed to De Heem, and he had many followers, including Abraham Mignon.
